Edakkal Caves
The famous rock shelters carved into the Edakkal Hills, holding petroglyphs thought to be thousands of years old. The house looks directly out at the hills that hold them, and the caves are just 850 metres away by foot.
Ponmodi Kotta
A short hop up the road — the nearest landmark to the property, and a useful reference point when you're finding your way here for the first time.

Practically next door. The property sits secluded within its plantation while remaining easily accessible by road — countryside quiet, without feeling cut off.

Within an easy drive
Ambalavayal sits well placed for the rest of the district. Below is a rough guide to help you plan — though we'd gently suggest choosing one or two, and leaving the rest of the day empty.
Manna Para
A broad rock shoulder looking out over the plantations and the hills beyond — a short, easy outing, and at its best in the early light or just before sunset.
Zipline
A ride strung out across the valley, for anyone in the group who wants a little altitude between the slow mornings. Subject to weather and operator timings — tell us if you'd like to go and we'll point you to it.
Ambalavayal Heritage Museum
A small, well-kept collection of tribal artefacts, terracotta and stone tools from the region — a good companion visit to the caves, and close enough to fold into a morning.
Phantom Rock
A skull-shaped natural rock formation at Cheengeri, with wide views across the surrounding hills. Quiet, quick, and best in the softer light of early morning or late afternoon.
Sulthan Bathery
The nearest proper town for supplies, pharmacies, restaurants and an ATM, with the old Jain temple at its centre.
Karapuzha Dam
An earthen dam with gardens and long water views. Unhurried, rarely crowded, and pleasant at sunset.
Soochipara Falls
Also called Sentinel Rock — a three-tiered waterfall reached by a short forest walk down, with a pool at the base. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet.
Kanthanpara Falls
Smaller and quieter than its better-known neighbours, set among trees. A good choice if you'd rather avoid the crowds.
Chembra Peak
The highest peak in Wayanad, known for the heart-shaped lake partway up the trail. A proper half-day trek — permits are limited and issued locally, and access can close in poor weather, so check ahead.
Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary
Early-morning and late-afternoon safaris through forest that adjoins Bandipur and Nagarhole. Elephants, deer and gaur are common sightings. Booking opens on the day at the gate.
Pookode Lake
A small freshwater lake ringed by evergreen forest, with boating and a walking path around the edge. Easily combined with a run to Vythiri.
Kuruva Island
A cluster of river islets on the Kabini, crossed by raft and walked on bamboo paths through dense evergreen. Closed during the monsoon and when water levels are high.
Banasura Sagar Dam
The largest earth dam in India, set against the Banasura hills with islands scattered across the reservoir. A full outing — give it most of a day.

Secluded, but easy to reach
The Weekend Pause is at Kuppakkolly, near the Edakkal Caves in Ambalavayal, in the south of Wayanad district. Though tucked within nature, it remains easily accessible by road, with parking on the property.
